CONFIRMATION

In the waters of baptism, we are claimed by God. At this same time, parents and sponsors make these promises for their child:
• To live among God’s faithful people
• To hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper
• To proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed
• To serve all people following the example of Jesus
• To strive for justice and peace in all the earth
These are the five core faith practices of the Christian faith. They are not commandments as much as they are gifts meant to shape us and be explored. The Holy Spirit uses these gifts to stir the embers of faith, create bold leaders, and transform congregations to be communities of Jesus where there are life-changing relationships with God, one another, and the world. Today and every day, we are called to live out our baptismal calling. Confirmation is a time when we explore these promises so that each youth can claim these promises made by parents and sponsors as their own.
